The Gual home
Solar technologies working in unison
This unique dual solar energy solution harnesses the sun’s energy with two sets of solar panels. The large array produces electricity for the home. Another set of flat-plate panels collect the sun’s energy to heat domestic water for the home. This home uses a collection of energy efficient, cutting-edge products to simultaneously save money on utility expenses and preserve the environment. Each of the components in system are seamlessly integrated into the home’s existing electrical and plumbing systems, making this solution a true turnkey system for everyday use.
SOLAR PHOTOVOLTAIC: Electricity is generated with an array of eighteen solar modules. The modules are connected to an inverter. The inverter converts direct current generated by the panels into alternating current for distribution throughout the home. Beneath the inverter is a disconnect switch and a revenue-grade meter, to track the amount of electricity produced by the system. The panels are also backed-up by the home’s local utility provider. When the solar photovoltaic panels produce excess electricity, the electricity is sold back to the utility provider at full retail value via Net Metering.
SOLAR THERMAL: Heat is harvested with a set of two flat-plate collectors. A solar transfer fluid circulates within the panels and down to a solar hot water storage tank. The solar fluid transfers the heat to the domestic water in the tank through an exchange coil within the tank. The heated water then passes through a high-effficiency hybrid water heater. If the hybrid water heating unit detects that the water, heated via solar, is not hot enough for domestic use, it provides the extra heat required with propane.
