FAQs: Solar

What is solar energy?

Solar energy is energy from the sun. There are many solutions used to harvest energy from the sun. The two main types of solar energy harvesting systems are thermal and photovoltaic. Solar thermal uses heat from the sun for water heating, cooling, ventilation and other processes. Solar photovoltaic uses a solar cell that converts light into electricity.

How does a solar power system work?

The most common solar power systems use solar-electric panels to turn sunlight into direct current (DC) electricity. The electricity created from this system is then routed into your property's alternating current (AC) breaker panel to meet with your property's electrical wiring.

Is there enough sunlight to power my home?

Most definitely. In fact, New England has a very high solar rating. Most solar energy systems produce energy even on cloudy days although not as much as on a sunny day. Solar energy can also be stored, so that on cloudy days, there is reserved electricity to be used.

What is a solar rating?

A solar rating is a measurement of the average available solar energy in a particular location for a year.

Do I have to change the wiring in my home?

Not at all. Freedom Renewable Energy will install your new system and hook it right into your existing wiring in your home. We will pull all the necessary permits and be present for any inspections that are necessary.

How much does a solar energy system cost?

Unfortunately, there is not a simple answer to this question as there are many factors that determine the cost of installing a renewable energy system, starting with the type and size of system. However, in some areas there may be incentives or energy rebates to reduce the cost of a renewable energy system. Freedom Renewable Energy will help determine the best system for your needs and work with you to apply for incentives and rebates to help cut the costs.
